Historically, the Lenovo eCommerce team relied on multiple legacy vendors for its localization program. Their approach involved manual processes and disparate business systems, leading to inefficiencies and unnecessary costs. Previous vendors have been slow to move and slow to innovate. They were expensive and ultimately we felt they were not taking into account our evolving business needs, like smarter connectivity through APIs, process efficiency, and, of course, full use of evolving AI technologies into different parts of our business sales and support motions.

Shifting from a vendor-centric approach to a strategy in which AI is driving program operations has enabled Lenovo’s eCommerce team to reduce time on vendor management and focus instead on AI model oversight and high-impact strategic initiatives. 

This new strategy with LILT has also enabled AI speed at enterprise scale. LILT has cut Lenovo’s translation delivery timelines by up to 60%, compared to its previous vendor. At this next-generation speed, LILT powers Lenovo’s complete multilingual eCommerce experience, translating more than 3 million words across 39 key languages for their business within the first few months of their partnership.

Even in the relatively early days of this relationship, the quality of the retraining model and overall capability of the LLMs started impacting the already great levels of quality. There was minimal engagement from our own teams, the AI model did all the heavy lifting and continues to do so, which is important for us running across so many countries and languages with only limited dedicated support resource.
